Never before can I recall such an unprecedented level of change with commercial business to that which we have witnessed in the last 12 months. I have shared long debates in recent months with other commercial Directors from a range of varying disciplines, which in fact are very different to mine but the bottom line story is much the same. Fact is, the commercial landscape has changed forever and the new rules for commercial engagement have changed also and will be uncompromising for those whom fail to face our new commercial agenda, very differently.
So often, current commercial decisions are based on our past experience but given that the future offers so much ambiguity allied with the fact that most will face the challenges with some trepidation, I worry that many businesses will not be prepared for the warp speed change which we are experiencing at this time?
Now more than ever, will be the time whereby commercial ability will identify the true market leaders and the ability to be structured or respond to such volatility, which will prove the commercial DNA for the most successful business enterprises.

As I’ve stated, the UK market can only be described as catastrophic and the current climate has witnessed the demise of many Estate & Letting agents this year and regrettably current media reports suggest that 1000’s of jobs will continue to be lost as more and more Estate and Letting agents fall victim this year to the financial crisis that the UK and global markets are experiencing at the present time.
However, on a very optimistic level we shouldn’t overlook that property is still actually selling and most certainly the lettings arena is still very buoyant – and yes, you’re right, and it would indeed be unfair not to offer at least some admission, that even the team at Goodchilds are having to work much harder this year to achieve the same commercial results – but remarkably -- we’re doing it!
But there’s some really great news I need to share with you!-- Our business formulas are well documented and well controlled! Our cost and service structures to landlords and corporate investors, whilst often imitated; remain unrivalled. Our landlord’s portfolios, and of course our business, continues to grow as we capitalise upon every opportunity with current landlords and investors.
